After reviewing the ELA standards the one that really stood out to me were the ones that applied to grade eleven and twelve. In your junior and senior year of high school it is very imperative that you are learning the basic requirements and skills to help prepare you for SAT/ACT and for college. Standard, Standards Technology
11-12 LAFS.1112.L.3.4, really sticks out because it deals with the students being able to comprehend and the meaning of words and phrases that they are unfamiliar with. Online dictionaries and other tools were super resourceful in highs school. They allowed me to be able to understand context that I was unfamiliar with. The other standards dealt with how you can take information and put it into different formats such as diagrams, pictures, videos, etc,. All of those skills are very valuable and will be used throughout the rest of your life either in school or in the workforce.
The tool or resource that I found to be most beneficial for my classroom would be the instructional resources that CPALMS Educator Toolkit offers. This is actually something that is extremely helpful in the classroom as a teacher. I was looking specifically at the ones offered for grades 9-12 and it offers lessons plans and virtual manipulatives. Having pre-made lessons plans is not something every teacher would agree on but personally I would use it a main resource in order to teach the students because it is more difficult to teach at a high school level.
At first I was not a fan of the Newsletter Design assignment but then it got interesting as i progressed. I am usually very good with word but this made it a little bit tricky for me. Luckily I am really good with figuring out how to navigate things but it was not easy. In the end result I was pleasantly surprised with how my Newsletter turned out. I was able to gain new skills such as adding in different borders and creating a cut out permission slip. In the future I will be able to implement these skills in whatever career force that I go into whether its making a flyer or a birthday card. Next time I hope to improve the time it took me to complete the assignment now that I know how to do it
I am glad that you managed to solve the difficulties in Newsletter design. A lot of projects and assignments in this class is designed to be a problem-solving experience and opportunities for you to test out/ showcase your style. When you start your career and there is no class of ed tech, you will have to solve the problems on your own for the most of time.
